Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools and Applications Policy
The Editorial Board recognizes the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and tools in scientific research, as well as their growing role in enhancing efficiency and enabling deeper insights. However, this significance may be accompanied by potential misuse and challenges to transparency and academic integrity. Many users tend to perceive AI as a system that simulates human cognitive abilities and behavioral patterns, including learning and reasoning. In this context, a conceptual confusion may arise—albeit unintentionally—between technological advancement and scientific innovation on the one hand, and artificial intelligence on the other.
It is evident that the world is moving toward a major transformation in this field. Nevertheless, the rapid spread of AI technologies such as conversational agents (e.g., ChatGPT) and image-generation systems (e.g., Midjourney), as well as AI-generated content—particularly images, videos, and illustrative materials created fully or partially using generative AI—may pose risks to research integrity, privacy, and intellectual property protection.
The principles governing scholarly and artistic publishing are fundamentally based on academic integrity, including proper attribution and citation. When any scientific or literary material is used or cited, it must be clearly attributed to its original source. However, current AI tools do not reliably provide access to verifiable sources for such attribution, which limits their ability to meet the requirements of intellectual property protection and the safeguarding of authors’ and creators’ rights against misuse.
Accordingly, it is essential for policymakers and stakeholders to establish strict guidelines governing the use of AI-based research tools in order to preserve established academic and publishing norms that have evolved over centuries.
Within this framework, the Editorial Board summarizes its policy on research that uses or addresses artificial intelligence as follows:
1. Use of Artificial Intelligence as a Research Support Tool
- Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must fully and clearly disclose in the acknowledgements section or the methodology section any use of AI tools (such as Large Language Models (LLMs), text generation tools, or image-generation systems) at any stage of manuscript preparation. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Drafting parts of the manuscript (e.g., introduction, literature review, discussion)
- Data analysis
- Generation of abstracts or keywords
- Language editing, proofreading, or grammatical correction
- Idea generation or title formulation
- Full Author Responsibility
Authors bear full and exclusive responsibility for the content of their work, including data accuracy, validity of conclusions, and adherence to academic integrity standards, even when AI tools are used. Artificial intelligence cannot be considered an author or co-author under any circumstances.
- Human Review and Verification
Any content generated or enhanced using AI tools must undergo thorough human review to ensure accuracy, originality, and appropriateness within the scientific context.
2. Research Addressing Artificial Intelligence as a Subject of Study
- Scientific Rigor and Methodology
Such studies must adhere to the highest standards of scientific methodology, including clear and detailed descriptions of models, algorithms, datasets, and evaluation methods.
- Ethical Considerations
The Editorial Board places special emphasis on research addressing the ethical, social, and legal dimensions of artificial intelligence. Authors are expected to address these aspects responsibly and comprehensively where applicable.
- Reproducibility
The Editorial Board encourages authors to share code and datasets (while respecting data privacy requirements) to ensure reproducibility of results whenever possible.
3. Plagiarism and Academic Integrity
- Any use of AI that results in plagiarism (self-plagiarism or plagiarism from external sources) or that misleads readers regarding the origin of content is considered a serious violation of the Journal’s publication ethics.
- All manuscripts are subject to rigorous plagiarism screening, including detection of AI-generated content that may have been used without disclosure.
4. Peer Review
Manuscripts that use or address artificial intelligence are evaluated according to the same strict peer-review standards applied to all submissions. Particular attention is given to methodology, transparency, accuracy, and ethical considerations.
5. Continuous Policy Update
Given the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, the Journal regularly reviews and updates its policies to ensure alignment with the latest developments and best practices in scholarly publishing.
Conclusion
This policy is intended to enhance the quality and rigor of research involving artificial intelligence and to ensure its responsible and ethical dissemination.
The Editorial Board extends its sincere appreciation to authors for their commitment to these principles.
