Aims and Scope
University Forum Journal for Humanities and Applied Studies (UFJHAS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal dedicated to publishing original scholarly research and studies that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the humanities and their relevant interdisciplinary and applied fields.
The journal places the humanities at the core of its academic scope. Its areas of interest include history and historical studies; archaeology and heritage; geography and spatial studies; philosophy and intellectual studies; languages, linguistics, and literature; sociology and social studies; psychology and behavioral studies; education and educational sciences; media and communication; cultural studies and anthropology; library and information science; the arts; and related humanities disciplines, as well as emerging fields and areas that intersect with them.
The journal welcomes interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research that draws on concepts, methodologies, or tools from more than one discipline, provided that the research makes a clear contribution to the study of human, social, cultural, historical, educational, or spatial issues, and that its subject matter and methodology are consistent with the journal’s academic scope.
The journal also considers applied research related to the humanities and social sciences, particularly research that employs contemporary scientific methods and technologies to investigate human, social, cultural, historical, spatial, educational, and heritage-related phenomena. Depending on the nature of the research, this may include areas such as digital humanities, heritage documentation and research, geographic information systems (GIS) in humanities and spatial studies, educational technologies, data analysis in the humanities and social sciences, and digital and technological applications relevant to people, society, and culture.
The journal encourages the use of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches, as well as historical, comparative, and critical methodologies, field research, data analysis, and digital and computational methods, provided that their application is appropriate to the nature of the research and enhances its scholarly value.
The journal's scope is not restricted to traditional disciplines in a rigid manner. Rather, it extends to interdisciplinary topics and fields that emerge from the interaction between the humanities, social sciences, and relevant scientific and technological applications. Research submissions are evaluated based on their subject matter, scholarly contribution, methodology, and degree of alignment with the journal’s aims and academic scope.
The term “Applied” in the journal’s title does not imply coverage of all branches of the applied sciences. Rather, it refers to research and applications that have a clear and substantive academic connection to the humanities and social sciences, or to the issues and fields of knowledge covered by the journal. Accordingly, research belonging to independent applied-science disciplines will not be considered unless it demonstrates a substantive connection to the journal’s scope.
The journal is committed to publishing research that meets standards of scholarly originality, methodological rigor, academic integrity, analytical quality, and a clear contribution to knowledge. All submitted manuscripts are subject to peer review in accordance with the journal’s established procedures and standards.
The journal seeks to serve as an academic platform that brings together the originality of humanities research, openness to interdisciplinary scholarship, and engagement with scientific and technological developments, thereby fostering rigorous knowledge of scholarly and academic value and opening new avenues for research into contemporary human, social, and cultural issues.
