    Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze media disinformation strategies and their impact on Arab media identity within the framework of the functional role of the media. With the increasing prevalence of fabricated information and disinformation practices, Arab media identity faces significant challenges that undermine its credibility and professionalism. This descriptive study employed a qualitative approach and relied on a desk-based research method to collect and analyze data relevant to the research problem.

The study was organized into three main sections. The first examined the concept of media disinformation and its strategies in both traditional and new media environments. The second explored the impact of the absence of clear strategic frameworks on the quality of media discourse, particularly in terms of objectivity and professional standards. The third discussed mechanisms for enhancing public awareness of misleading media narratives in order to safeguard Arab media identity.

The findings revealed that media disinformation relies on a range of strategies, including distortion, concealment, manipulation, and repetition, all of which are deliberately employed to shape public opinion. The study also found that new media platforms, particularly social media networks, are more vulnerable to the dissemination of false information due to their rapid circulation of content and limited regulatory oversight. In contrast, certain traditional media outlets, including television channels and newspapers, engage in the deliberate manipulation of information to advance specific political or economic agendas.

Furthermore, the findings indicated that the lack of credibility and objectivity in news reporting, resulting from the absence of clear strategic approaches in media discourse, contributes to an environment of information disorder in which audiences struggle to distinguish between factual and misleading information. The study also demonstrated that the inappropriate use of media language facilitates the spread of misleading narratives, thereby eroding public trust in media institutions and ultimately weakening the resilience of Arab media identity. Therefore, strengthening Arab media identity requires adherence to the functional role of the media in providing credible, objective, and professional content.
